Initiatives
Choosing Hope focuses on initiatives that address needs and assist programs in place ~ doing our part to bring God into the process wherever possible. Below is a list of those that we are currently focusing...
Jericho Journey
In "CommonUnity" we will journey to locations around the Dayton metro area that assist the addicted and their families. We will pray for God's blessings for the organization(s) at that location, those that work there, and the addicted and their loved ones being served.
Secondary goals: forge/renew relationships in a local church leadership across denomination lines to creatively work together in the future and to inform/engage members to become involved in local treatment and recovery support efforts.
Adopt-A-Hero Prayer Partnership
An intercessory ministry in which a parishioner prays daily for one year for a police/fire station, emergency room, coroners office or an individual first responder. Every day these heroes face the pain caused by addiction and need God to sustain, protect, comfort and guide them on and off the job.
Education & Prevention
This initiative created opportunities for learning and education regarding the drug crisis and identifying and disseminating prevention methods to our respective congregations and communities through existing channels. Creating a greater understanding of the issues facing addicted (active and recovering) their families and those on the front lines responding to drug abuse.
Safe & Drug-Free housing
THIS INITIATIVE IS IN INITIAL/PLANNING STAGES
Once released from detox individuals often have difficulty finding housing that is drug free to support their recovery efforts. This also applies to teens when they age out of the foster care system at age 18, many of these teens are also in need of safe housing.
Foster Care
THIS INITIATIVE IS IN INITIAL/PLANNING STAGES
Over 750 children/teens are in foster care in Montgomery and Greene Counties in Ohio. Of those nearly half have a deceased or incarcerated parent due to drug overdose.
Through this initiative we will assist in informing the community about foster care and the most pressing needs of the system, including criteria to become a foster parent, and placement of teens in safe housing.
Grandparents Of Dayton Support Group {Love G.O.D.}
This initiative focuses on supporting grandparents (and other kin) raising grandchildren and/or children affected by a parent with substance use disorder. Hundreds of people throughout the Dayton-area have become primary care-givers for young children in just the last few years.
Joseph's Friends - Indigent Burial
THIS INITIATIVE IS IN INITIAL/PLANNING STAGES
Joseph of Arimathea helped to bury Jesus. We are using this initiative to join together in providing burial costs and prayers for overdosed individuals whose families are struggling or those who may no family.
Stabilization/Detox Center
THIS INITIATIVE IS IN INITIAL/PLANNING STAGES
We are reaching out to assist St. Vincent de Paul with the soon-to-be developed Dayton Detox Center. The goal of this center is to streamline care and lift treatment overload from emergency rooms. Our initial goal is to sponsor a chapel and or family gathering space.
